Olivia Rodrigo Won’t Go ‘Sour’

Earlier this year Olivia Rodrigo broke onto the scene with her hit single Driver’s License. She followed it up with two hit singles and a monster of a debut album. She is a Disney child star transitioning into a full on pop music sensation, and yes we have seen this time and time again. Of course this time she didn’t just slowly remold her persona as she entered the music entertainment scene, but the question still comes whether her star will fade? The difference between Olivia and her Disney contemporaries is her ability to write raw emotion into her music. Her music is so relatable because like her we are all emotional beings, however often we shy away from expressing our negative emotions. Olivia’s songs don’t lead you to believe she is this hero, but a vulnerable person who has real feelings and desires. She is untangling life’s web of bs and difficult decisions in the same way that everyone else is, but she’s not hiding it. She worked with collaborator Daniel Nigro to make an album that deeply expressed raw sour emotions of jealousy, anger, regret, acceptance, and sadness. She is well aware of the fact that good art is driven by real emotion, it’s something that can’t be faked. Yes things got messy especially with her HSMTMTS costar Joshua Basset, (which they are doing a great job exploring on season two of the show) but you can’t hide from yourself if you want real art. He shouldn’t be getting all the crap he is getting online since most of what’s public information is from her side of the story, and besides they are barely out of high school we all screw up a bunch then. Olivia Rodrigo will continue her success for years to come because she is not afraid to bring her heart into her music, she won’t go sour anytime soon.
