Dave Franco, Jimmy Tatro, O’shea Jackson jr., Darryl Hannah, and Bill Murray star in a new miniseries on Roku originally made for Quibi. The Now is a series following Ed Poole (Dave Franco) a suicidal depressed man whose family is in shambles after the suicide of both his father and brother. Ed has to wrestle with personal failure and regret as he tries to find meaning and good in his life. The show doesn’t run away from the complex topics it ventures to face, instead it faces these beasts head on with nuance and honesty. The characters are not handed an easy way out of their problems, but instead are forces to grapple with the complex challenges they face. The Now is both funny and honest in ways most tv shows wont dare to be. The writing from Peter Farrelly, Pete Jones, and Steve Leff is great. By no means is it an easy watch, dealing with the topic of suicide, however I certainly recommend it to those who feel okay exploring this topic.
